AT Medics has developed a team of 45 Clinical Pharmacists and 25 Physician Associates across our 42 London primary care sites, the largest allied health group within one organisation in England.
Our multi-disciplinary team offers patients choice, variety and specialist care, and we invest significantly in their continuous professional development. Our Clinical Pharmacists and Physician Associates receive a thorough induction organisationally and to primary care, and are enrolled to a bespoke GP-led education programme specific for their staffing group as well as interdisciplinary learning, designed to fully integrate and sustain our allied health professionals within General Practice. This programme is delivered by our learning division, AT Learning and enables the development of a wide range of relevant competencies and skills, underpinned by a rigorous curriculum.
In November, we ran our annual Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) together with a written examination for both groups of staff, to assess their competencies and skills, and to ensure our standard of care delivery is informed by a thoroughly evaluated process.
The OSCEs consisted of performance-based examinations used to understand their clinical capability. During the OSCEs, candidates were observed and evaluated as they went through a series of stations in which they were faced with a real-life clinical situations. This involved taking a history from the patient, examining where necessary and managing conditions. As part of the examinations, the Pharmacists and Physician Associates also had to complete a written test to further asses their knowledge and understanding.
